Rains continued in Gujarat for the seventh day today even as the flood toll touched 123. The Army, Navy and the Air Force have evacuated more than 2.5 lakh people so far.

The situation is likely to worsen as the Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains today and tomorrow. Officials say another spell of rains can be disastrous as most rivers and 54 dams in the state are overflowing. There is a 30-foot breach in Pratapura dam on the outskirts of Vadodara. Parts of Vadodara city and most areas of Anand and Kheda districts of South Gujarat are under 10 to 12 feet water.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil conducted an aerial survey of parts of Ahmedabad district this morning but had to cut short his survey of the worst-hit areas due to bad weather.

As many as 40 army boats have been air-lifted and 28 more are likely to be in position by tomorrow morning. Chlorine tablets and bleaching powder is being airlifted to the state in large quantities.

As many as 12 helicopters of the Indian Air Force have been kept ready at the Ahmedabad airport. Vadodra airport was made operational today. Production at the Baroda Refinery also resumed.

A high-level ministerial meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary V.K. Duggal today reviewed the situation.
