LUCKNOW, March 3: Veteran Congress leader Narain Dutt Tiwari today resigned from Uttar Pradesh Congress president’s post owning moral responsibility for the party’s rout in the state.

In a letter sent to Congress president Sitaram Kesri, Tiwari requested acceptance of his resignation and urged Kesri to relieve him of his post immediately.

The party fared dismally in the state with not a single seat to its kitty as yet though it contested from 76 constituencies with Tiwari himself humbled by Ila Pant (BJP) at Nainital by over 15,000 votes.

The Congress in UP saw another major loss in Amethi when Satish Sharma was trounced by Sanjay Singh of the BJP.
