Is Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jairam Ramesh tipped to be the next Finance Minister of the country? Uttaranchal Chief Minister Narain Datt Tiwari, a senior Congress leader today created a stir by publicly congratulating Jairam Ramesh for his proposed elevation in the Union Cabinet.

Tiwari along with Union Minister of Communications and IT T Dayanidhi Maran and Jairam Ramesh were present on the occasion of the inauguration of an IT incubation centre being developed by the Software Technology Parks of India here when he said this in his speech.

Tiwari surprised everyone by commenting that Jairam Ramesh is going to be the next finance minister of the country. He said that although the present Union Finance Minister Chidambaram was doing a good job, he wished Jairam Ramesh success.

Embarrassed by the comments, the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jairam Ramesh asked Tiwari why he said so, to which Tiwari said, “Is this not possible?”

He then went on to describe Ramesh as an able economist and computer wizard.

“Your mind works like a computer and I wish I could emulate you,” Tiwari added.
