MUMBAI, AUG 19: IES VN SULE School, Dadar claimed the Under-17 boys and girls titles in the DSO (city) inter-school badminton tournament at Sachivalaya Gymkhana today. While the boys defeated Antonio Da Silva 2-1, the girls beat SIES by a similar margin. IES also retained the Under-14 boys title, blanking Bombay Scottish 2-0 in the final.

The girls U-14 event produced a new winner, St Anne’s, Fort. St Anne’s, making their debut in the event, rallied to beat GD Somani 2-1, after Mansi Seth had lost the opening singles to Aanchal Vaswani. Ruia and RA Podar claimed the U-19 boys and girls titles respectively.

Boys (U-14): IES VN Sule bt Bombay Scottish 2-0 (Rohit Prabhu bt Amod Athavale 15-1 15-3; Rohit/ Aditya Kini bt Amod/ Salil Mongia 15-6 15-6).

(U-17): IES VN Sule bt Antonio Da Silva, Dadar 2-1 (Kailash Dalvi lost to Sushil Sawant 2-15 1-15; Kailash/ Aniket Limaye bt Sushil/ Cayton Athogius 15-8 15-7; Aniket w/o Dharmesh Shah).

(U-19): Ruia bt DG Ruparel 2-0 (Amit Singhbt Sagar Khanna 15-1 6-2 conceded; Amit/ Indrajit Tawde bt Sagar/ Nihar Joshi 15-7 15-6).

Girls (U-14): St Anne’s bt GD Somani 2-1 (Mansi Seth lost to Aanchal Vaswani 8-11 6-11; Mansi/ Madhura Paranjpe bt Aanchal/ Apeksha Gupta 15-1 15-5; Vasudha Somani bt Pooja Khanna 11-5 13-11).

U-17: IES VN Sule bt SIES 2-1 (Madhura Mohadikar lost to Deepti Nair 12-13 4-11; Shivani Mayekar/ Aditi Kulkarni bt Deepti/ Aparajita Srivastava 15-2 15-0; Shivani bt Aparajita 11-0 11-0).

U-19: RA Podar bt HR Commerce 2-0 (Amodi Borkar bt Resham Bathija 11-0 11-0; Ramya Venkat/ Yesha Sanghvi bt Resham/ Devanshi Joshi 15-1 15-4).

Patwardhan advances

Top seed Vikrant Patwardhan advanced to the third round in the senior State Selection badminton tournament at NSCI today. The left-handed Patwardhan defeated Rahul Deshpande 15-12, 15-13.
