In a combined operation, the Central security forces and the police shot dead three suspected militants on the outskirts of Imphal. According to a statement issued by PRO (DW) Col Rajesh Mishra, all three belonged to the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). Two AK-56 series assault rifles, bayonets, magazines, live ammunition and a Maruti 800 were recovered from the slain men.

According to police reports, a team of Imphal (West) police commandos were on frisking duty in the Lamsang area when a car approached them. However, instead of stopping for checking, they fired several rounds at the police party, following which the police team gave them a chase. They were helped by the troops of the 16 Assam Rifles and the 22 Maratha Light Infantry, which cut off all escape routes.

The three men then abandoned the car and took refuge in a waterlogged paddy field. On the arrival of additional police personnel from Imphal, the combined team of security forces cordoned off the field and killed the three suspects.
