PUNE, June 15: Three persons were killed in three separate road accidents reported from various parts of the city since last night.
Salim Mohammed Shakurkhan from Dharampura in Madhya Pradesh was killed on the spot when his truck turned turtle at Moshi village on Pune-Nashik Road early this morning.
Salim was driving towards Pune when he lost control over the truck. The truck overturned after dashing against a milestone, police said.
A separate accident of hit-and-run claimed the life of a 23-year-old unidentified man opposite the Harshal Hotel on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass road late last night, Sahakarnagar police said.
Aruna S Wavhal, a 26-year-old clerk working with the Premnagar branch of the Rupee Cooperative Bank Limited, was killed on the spot when a tanker ran over her near the Pune Municipal Transport bus stand at Katraj last evening.
Wavhal’s 29-year-old colleague Sanjay Jayhari Naik, who was seriously injured in the mishap, has been admitted to a private hospital in Dhanwakawdi area. The bank officials were riding towards Wanowrie when their motorbike skidded and Wavhal came under the wheels of a tanker heading in the opposite direction. Naik, who was riding the motorbike, had applied the brakes in a bid to avoid a dash with the tanker. However, the motorbike skidded due to the soil spread over the road and both Naik and Wavhal fell down.
Wavhal, who was flung away, came under the wheels of the tanker before she could move away. Naik, who landed on a boulder along the road, suffered a deep head injury, police said.
Tanker driver, Pintu Mahapati Zende (23) from Bavdhan village in Mulshi taluka, has been arrested by the Sahakarnagar police.
