The bodies of three Pakistanis were found with their throats cut and hands and feet tied together after a bomb blast today at the office of the Honorary Consul General to Macedonia here, police said.

One of the victims was a Christian security guard at the office, another was an unidentified Pakistani woman and the third was an unidentified Pakistani man, police said. Local police Chief Kamal Shah said the bomb was powerful and the attack ‘‘appeared to be an act of terrorism’’, although no suspects had yet been identified.

Karachi has a notorious reputation for violence, with western and Christian targets particulary targeted this year in the wake of the US-led war on terrorism. Shah said no westerners appeared to be at the Macedonian office at the time of the attack, which occurred about 0130 hrs.

The office of the Honorary Consul, Bilal Qureshi, is in Karachi’s upmarket Defence District. Qureshi, who is the brother of former acting Pakistani Prime Minister Moeen Qureshi, was in another house at the time of the blast.

Karachi Police Superintendant Munir Sheikh, who was at the scene of the attack, said the victims had their throats slit, as well as their hands and feet bound together, indicating they were killed before the bomb.
