MUMBAI, June 26: In two separate incidents three bar girls were released on Thursday noon after being kidnapped and gangraped by unidentified men in Goregaon on Wednesday morning.

Both the incidents occurred at around 2.45 am when the three girls, residents of Goregaon transit camp, were returning from their respective place of work.

In the first incident, the autorickshaw carrying two girls aged between 22-24 years and working in Space Garden bar at Juhu was waylaid near Jaico company. Meanwhile, the rickshaw of 26-year-old girl from Khandahar bar at Andheri was intercepted near Nirlon signal at Goregaon.

Even as the police were making investigations, all three of them returned this afternoon. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the girls were repeatedly gangraped by their kidnappers during their confinement. It was believed the same gang was involved in both the incidents, since a white Maruti vehicle has figured in both.

The bar owners and managers are also being questioned. The girls were detained beyond the permissible hours. The girls are to be relieved at 8.30 pm if they were employed as waitresses and by midnight if they were performers.“We are making investigations about their performance licences,” revealed a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity.

Space Garden has stated that since the bar was raided and the employees could be released only after 1 am, the girls were delayed in the process. However, the Khandahar bar has not been able to explain the late hours of business.

The police is yet to question the victims. They expect some breakthrough after the girls give some clues on the identity of the kidnappers.
