PATIALA, April 28: Personnel of the CIA staff of the local police here have nabbed three auto- lifters and recovered from them a large number of stolen vehicles.

According to SSP Parampal Singh Sidhu those arrested are Gurjinder Singh alias Romi alias Sunny and Gagandeep Singh alias Robin of Jalandhar, both of whom are in their teens along with Sukhwinder Singh of Julkan. He disclosed that both Sunny and Robin indulged in thefts and chain-snatching too. They were students of 10 + 2 at Jalandhar and used to frequently visit Patiala, where they committed a spate of robberies, the SSP alleged.

The modus operandi of the accused was to look for a room in some good hotel and during inspection would open the latches of the room. Thereafter, they would take the adjacent room, only to return to the former one and pick up articles belonging to the occupants. At times, they also picked up cash from hotel counters. The SSP also disclosed that the two were also involved in an incident of chain-snatching in September.

Their accomplice Sukhwinder Singh was only involved in auto thefts. The three were arrested following a tip-off by a team of personnel led by SP (Detective) Kewal Kumar and Inspector B. S. Mangat.

A Maruti Zen, a Bullet motorcycle, two Yamaha motorcycles stolen, two Bajaj Chetak scooters were recovered from the accused, police sources said.
