NEW DELHI, April 16: The north district police have arrested three persons and claim to have busted an inter-state gang of dacoits. The three persons — identified as Rizwan, Nazim alias Golta and Sita Ram — were arrested on the intervening night of April 12 and 13, in the Shahdara Police Station Area after the police received `secret information’. The rest of the gang members managed to escape.

The police seized a country-made revolver from the possession of Rizwan. Two button knives were recovered from Naim and Sita Ram. The police have booked all three persons under the Arms Act.

The gang, reportedly known as the Rizwan-Golta gang, is headed by Rizwan. According to the police, it is involved in 33 cases, including dacoity, robbery, theft, rioting and murder in UP. They are also allegedly involved in sensational road hold-ups in UP. They would stop passenger buses and loot the occupants.

On May 9, 1997, the gang had also attacked a police party in Moradabad at Kashipur road and had reportedly tried to kill a police officer. In Delhi, they were reportedly involved in a dacoity at Noorpur in the New Friends Colony area in south district. Rizwan has been identified as a `desperate criminal’ and has even allegedly murdered his brother. The UP police had declared an award of Rs 5,000 for his arrest. Nazim is accused of killing a UP police inspector.
