No more raunch-gaana if the Information and Broadcasting Ministry is stringent about the new ‘U’ certificate regulation. But ask anyone about how it would affect their colourful re-mixed careers and they point in the other direction.
‘‘None of my videos are raunchy. The censor doesn’t want butt and cleavage and only people like Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru should be worried,’’ says DJ Aqeel, whose music video for the Vaada Raha remix showed plenty of both.
Director of videos such as Kaanta Laga and Chadtee Jawani, Sapru, says: ‘‘Music videos are history for me and my partner Radhika Rao. We’re now directing a feature film.’’
Meanwhile SABe TV, one of the channels that uplinks from India, was on the defensive. ‘‘Many things are not okay in India and the government has to realise it, so there’s no point protesting,’’ says Charu Singh, executive producer, SABe TV on the fact that channels such as MTV and [V] that don’t uplink from India remain unaffected by the rule.
‘‘Self-censorship is more important,’’ says Cyrus Oshidar, general manager, Creative and Content, MTV while Channel [V]’s head honcho Amar K. Deb feels that a regulation should be applicable to all channels.
