In separate incidents, thieves strike at two houses and decamp with cash and jewellery worth Rs 2 lakhIn two separate incidents on Tuesday, thieves decamped with cash and gold jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh from two houses in the city. In one incident, armed robbers ran away with jewellery from a house in Agar Nagar while in another incident burglars decamped with cash and jewellery from an apartment in the Meghdoot Colony of the Postal department.According to sources, the first incident occurred at the house of businessman Avinash Goel when his wife Mukta was alone in the house. Three armed robbers entered the house around 9.45 am and forced her to hand over her jewellery, on a pistol point. Sarabha Nagar police led by DSP Bhupinder Singh and SHO Devinder Kumar reached the house to investigate the matter but the family refused to register a complaint.However, Amrit Lal Aggarwal, director of the Ludhiana Aggarwala Co-operative House Building Society (the governing body of the Agar Nagar) said the society has decided to increase private security in the colony. He said more gates will be installed at the entry points of the colony to keep a tab on suspicious persons.In another incident, unidentified thieves decamped with Rs 70,000 and gold jewellery from the flat of General Post Office Speedpost manager Sat Pal Pahwa in the Meghdoot Colony. According to Pahwa, he and his wife were away to work when the theft took place.“When my wife came home during the lunch hours, she found the lock broke open and the home was ransacked. Around Rs 70,000 and about 120 grams of gold jewellery and some other valuables were missing,” Pahwa said.The police have started investigations.
