The love triangle (with more than one angle) of the year:

The Sunny Deol-Dimple Kapadia-Raveena Tandon-Akshay Kumar affair has kept gossip magazines busy through the year. First they were, then they weren’t.

It all started with Raveena dumping Akshay for Sunny, who dumped Dimple for Raveena. Apparently, Akshay even caught the new lovebirds inflagrante delicito. Then Sunny dumped Raveena and went back to Dimple on the condition that she stops gambling — on cards, not men. And Raveena was so heartsick that she contracted brain fever — meningitis. Apparently, Akshay was a regular visitor by her bedside but at the same time he was rumoured to be engaged to some Delhi girl. Now Raveena has sworn off men and is sticking to her diet of popcorn.

The full-stop award:

There was tough competition in this category. After all the year has put a close to many a flagging careers. So dismal were their performances that glossies stopped writing about these non-starters. People like Saif Ali Khan and Mamta Kulkarni falling further than each other but could take the plunge into the abyss. The end of his life award goes to Sanjay Kapoor. The younger brother of Anil Kapoor, the boy friend of model Maheep Sandhu — were all tags that he wears but no one remembers that this Raja was once an actor.

The silicon Sushmita award:

Ever since Sush went public with her assets, this award has been renamed in her honour. Old time heroines just used padding or stuffed socks but our Ms Universe tampered with her natural beauty. Not one to be left behind, Madhuri Dixit discarded her heavy cholis and went in for the real — sorry, fake — thing. If Karisma can go to the plastic surgeon and get her cheeks pared, then Madhuri can have her curves enhanced. Dil To Pagal Hai, when it’s a matter of love and war.
