Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Saturday sent out a categorical message that she would work to become the Prime Minister while formally launching the BSP’s poll campaign for the coming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking at a national convention of the party with former Congress leader Natwar Singh by her side, Mayawati said, “If I can become the Chief Minister of the largest state four times, why can’t I become the Prime Minister of the country with the support of sarv samaj?”
“What the BSP would have struggled to achieve in seven years was given to the party in seven days by the political crisis at the Centre over the nuclear deal. This achievement is going to prove very beneficial for the party,” she said.
Seeking to strike an emotional chord with her supporters Mayawati said, “The Congress was conspiring to send me to jail either before the elections to the five state Assemblies or after the polls.” She also apprehended that the Congress and the BJP could eliminate her by organising terrorist or Naxal attacks.
“If the Supreme Court gives an adverse decision in the disproportionate assets case against me and I am jailed then do not get disheartened. If I am sent to jail before the polls then you have to prove your mettle and bring the best results in the five Assembly polls so that in future no party ever dares to send me to jail,” Mayawati said.
She said both the Congress and BJP were parties with manuvadi ideology and could never digest the fact that a Dalit woman can become the prime minister. “This is disgusting and sad part of the politics these parties follow,” she said while calling upon her cadres to make efforts to help her gain the top seat of the country.
Mayawati said these stumbling blocks would not deter her or dilute the BSP’s aspirations to see their leader as the Prime Minister of the country one day. “The day is not far when I will become the PM,” an elated Mayawati said.
The BSP leader said the forward march of the party could not be stopped come what may. “No political party in the country can impede the growth of the BSP, which has already occupied the top slot in the country’s politics,” she claimed.
Mayawati said she was proud of being a Dalit and Bharat Ki Beti. Launching an attack on the Congress, BJP and the SP, Mayawati said all parties had ganged up against BSP in view of the possibility of her becoming the PM.
“The true mentality of these parties came to the fore during the trust vote in the Parliament on July 22, when they looked upset over my candidature for the post of the Prime Minister,” she said.
She was particularly critical of the Railway Minister and RJD President Lalu for opposing her candidature for the PM’s post. “Lalu Prasad should exercise restraint while speaking about a Dalit and more so because he himself comes from the backward class,” she said. She said her party had announced the names of 80 candidates for the LS polls in the state, including SP rebels, Shahid Siddiqui who will contest from Bijnore.
The BSP Supremo the party would organise a three-phase country-wide agitation janhit andolan from September 1 against price rise and other anti-people policies of the UPA Government.
Ridiculing Rahul Gandhi’s speech during the trust vote debate mentioning two Dalit women, she said it was ‘romantic narration’. “The Congress’s Yuvraj was just staging a drama by showing his concern for Kalawati and Phalanawati by promising to address their woes through nuclear energy.”
