Chennai, Jan 2: Tamil Nadu Law Minister Aladi Aruna today warned Union Law Minister and AIADMK MP M Thambidurai that the State Government would be “forced to file a contempt of court petition against him if he did not stop giving false information about the setting up of special courts to try corruption cases against AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalitha, her erstwhile cabinet colleagues and officials”.

Aruna pointed out that the State did not constitute the special courts suo motu. As there were large number of pending cases, the State approached the Madras H C for constituting the special courts to try corruption cases. It was the H C which constituted the additional courts, selected judges to preside over them and allotted cases for the courts. The State could not interfere in the process.

At this juncture, the Centre, which had not filed any case against the former AIADMK ministers, did not have powers to reallocate cases in the special courts. It was a matter concerning judicialadministration, the Minister said and blamed Thambidurai of trying to confuse the people without knowing the basic fact.

Besides, the Union Minister had been adopting various tactics to delay the cases filed against Jayalalitha, he said. Some of the tactics include appointing defence lawyers as Government counsels; transferring officials; filing of affidavit in the Supreme Court by the Central Government contradicting its own affidavit filed in the Madras High Court; and writing letters to the accused, the Minister charged.
