PUNE, Nov 24: Corporators at the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) are on a confrontation path against the administration over the alleged slackness in the administrative functioning.

The administration was taken to task yesterday over the inaction in curbing pollution of Pavana river and in the next two days the civic general body meetings are expected to be stormy over a number of issues including promotions, filling up of vacancies of the posts of class three and four categories and the environment status report.

Unexpectedly, Congress party leader Nana Shitole yesterday charged that the administration failed to do its homework over a number of issues and hence could not give satisfactory replies.

Former standing committee chairman Ashok Kadam was also critical of the working of the administration, particularly after Municipal Commissioner Ganesh Thakur had taken over charge. Invariably, the corporators have been comparing the working style of Thakur and his predecessor Pravinsinh Pardeshi. The main grouse of the corporators has been that the momentum of the civic works witnessed during the tenure of Pardeshi has reduced considerably.

While Mayor Hanumanth Bhosale has already made several queries to Thakur regarding the promotions being given to the civic employees, Bhosale today sent a letter to Divisional Commissioner Arun Bhatia requesting him to take action against alleged irregularities in recruitment of employees and the promotions given to them on ad-hoc basis.

In his letter, Bhosale charged that a total of 38 promotions to deputy engineers were given although the government had not sanctioned them.
