VADODARA, June 2: Prominent citizens of the city have strongly protested against nuclear tests conducted by India and Pakistan, saying these do not help bring peace, security and development in the region.

Speaking at a meeting here on Monday, speakers from various walks of life voiced their concern over death, destruction and danger such devices could bring to the human race.

They said the scarce resources of the country should not be wasted for development of destructive weapons but diverted for ameliorating the economic conditions of the poor, who find it difficult to make ends meet.Stating that non-violence, peace, brotherhood, unity, love and development have been the basis of the country’s relations with foreign countries, speakers said that recent nuclear tests by India and Pakistan were a severe blow to people’s faith in peace.

They said that bombs have no winners or losers, but only killers and the killed. Bombs do not provide security or safety but only led to the annihilation of the human race. The meeting attended by prominent Sarvodaya leader Jagdish Shah, was presided over by Tulsiu Boda.
