Terrorism high on agenda as Modi meets PM

In a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi reiterated that stringent laws like POTA and Gujarat Control and Organised Crime (GUJCOC) would help “discourage educated youth” from becoming potential criminals and terrorists.

Modi briefed the PM about the progress in the Ahmedabad serial blasts case and said the breakthrough achieved in solving the case may yield leads that would help in solving other terror cases in the country. He also voiced concern over the fact that interrogation of the accused had revealed a pan-India programme of training and indoctrination of educated youth across the country.

Counter-terrorism was high on Modi’s agenda in the meeting, which was also attended by National Security Advisor M K Narayanan. Modi urged the PM to hold a meeting of chief ministers from economically developed states, which have now come under the radar of terrorist attacks. He said, “Initiative needs to be taken immediately in blast-affected states and a meeting needs to be called under the PM’s chairmanship to chalk out a concrete action plan.”
