Following recent intelligence inputs received by the Punjab government from their counterparts in Delhi regarding revival of terrorism, the state government is planning to strengthen the existing Intelligence Wing in the state by recruiting more personnel and imparting modern training. According to high-level sources, the state government was recently apprised by the intelligence agencies in New Delhi of the possible terror threat to Punjab due to cross-border infiltration. “Concrete plans are in the pipeline for strengthening the intelligence network in the state,” they said. Media adviser to Punjab Chief Minister HS Bains said efficient men working in various wings of the Punjab Police would be shifted to the Intelligence Wing. “The CM has also given a nod to strength and modernise the intelligence network,” he said. Bains said the wing personnel would be given training at police academies in Punjab. “Efforts are already on in this regard and a special budget is also under consideration,” he said.
