The Department of Telecommunications will submit possible solutions to the issues that will be taken up by the Group of Ministers (GoM) formulated to study telecom issues within the next 10 days. It will also provide pros and cons of each solution, said Union Minister for Communications Arun Shourie on the sidelines of a seminar. The first meeting of GoM, which was formed by the PM, will be held on September 25, when they will consider the first draft.
The GoM will be headed by Finance Minister Jaswant Singh. It will also include External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha, Arun Shourie, Law Minister Arun Jaitley, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Defence Minister George Fernandes. The GoM will submit its recommendations to the Union Cabinet by November.
The issues to be considered for review by the GoM include vacating spectrum for provision of telecom services, raising the FDI limit in the telecom sector, among others.
