Tired limbs and long innings will not put Mayank Tehlan to sleep. Saturday night is not about partying. It’s hours of tossing in bed, thinking about what can be a century on first-class debut. For this 18-year old right-hander, batting overnight on 74 is a wee torturous.

“Tonight is going to be more difficult than the last 48 hours, thinking about my first cap. I have done all the hard work, I know a hundred is within my reach, but there’s the early morning session to negotiate.”

It wasn’t easy to bat on the ‘green’ Jamia wicket. The ball wasn’t coming on to the bat and it demanded a great deal of maturity and concentration. At the end of the day, Tehlan walked back with his bat raised, having done his job. Delhi ended Day Two at 170/4 — just 38 runs behind Maharashtra’s total.

Brief scores: Maharashtra 208 all out (Sairaj Bahutule 66, Mukesh Diwan 4/48, Kuunal Lall 4/33) vs Delhi 170/4 (Mayank Tehlan 74 not out, Aakash Chopra 24, Rajat Bhatia 24, Mitthun Manhas 21, Burkul 3/54).
