HISAR, Dec 6: Thousands of teachers from all over the state will observe one day strike on December 11 in protest against the state government’s anti-teacher and anti-education policies.

Disclosing this here today, Balwant Singh Bura, organisational secretary, Haryana Government Teacher`s Association, said that block-level teams have been set up to ensure maximum participation. He blamed the government for privatising education and it`s bid to introduce syllabus which would give rise to superstition.

Bura also criticised the ruling alliance for not filling up vacant posts of teachers in schools all over the state. He added that out of 86,000 recommended posts of teachers ,over 25,000 have not been filled for long while 95 per cent schools in villages are facing a staff crunch.

“Whenever a demand to recruit an adequate number of teachers is made, education department just sent teachers on deputation from one school to another. As a result, a large number of teachers had to perform duties at two or three different schools in a week”, he alleged.

“Even head teachers are allotted additional charge of more than one school at a time. This is nothing less than playing with the career of students, Bura further added.

He said that the other demands of teachers include, non-academic functions assigned from time to time like poll, census and duties relating to identification of those living under poverty line and maintenance of funds under various central and state government schools. “On top of it, the education department has not prepared any seniority list, which gives rise to confusions at the time of promotions”, he alleged.

R C Jagga, general secretary, Haryan Sarv Karamchareesangh, with whom the teachers’ body is a affiliated, said that the final strategy for the December 11 strike and subsequent protest would be chalked out at a meeting to be held here on December 8.
