SURAT, March 17: Four of the five agitating teachers, who were on an indefinite fast, have been shifted to the New Civil hospital after their condition deteriorated even as the indefinite stir of private primary school teachers entered the seventh day on Wednesday.Manjulaben Rana of R V Patel High School, Amroli and president of the non teaching staff association along with Krishnaben Mistry and Nilaben Mistry, both of the Sardar Patel Bhulka Bhawan School, Adajan Patia were admitted in the afternoon, while late in the evening, Nita Dedakiya was also shifted.Meanwhile, Deepak Patel, president of the Surat Shahar Manya Khangi Prathamik Shikshan Sangh (SSMKPSS), under whose aegis the agitation is being carried on, embarked on a fast unto death outside the collectorate on Wednesday afternoon. The teachers have planned to burn effigies of private school managements and district administration authorities in the collectorate premises on Thursday.Kanhaiyalal Suratwala, secretary of the SSMKPSS, said in a statement on Wednesday that trustees of the Bhulka Bhawan school had not paid salaries of teachers for the past three months. He said that although it was true that a meeting with parents of children studying in the school had been called, no teacher was invited in the meeting.
