PATIALA, Sept 17: The teaching faculty of Punjabi University, on a call given by the Punjab Federation of University Teachers Association (PFUTA) and Punjabi University Teachers Association (puta), observed protest today by wearing black badges for non-acceptance of the UGC recommended pay scales by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development.PUTA president Dr S S Khaira and secretary Dr Narender Singh Atri said in a statement that the university teachers throughout the country were continuing their agitation for the UGC recommended pay scales under the leadership of FEDCUTA. Meanwhile, the Progressive Teachers Council (PTC) at its meeting today unanimously condemned the ``undue interference '' of the Punjab government for ban on all fresh appointments and promotions in the universities.In Amritsar, the Guru Nanak Dev University Teachers Association (GNDUTA) today condemned the Punjab government's move to ban fresh appointments in the universities of the state.The ban was described as gross interference and blatant attack on the autonomy of institutes. R K Bedi, president of GNDUTA, said the ban would lead to oliticisation of faculty appointments.M P S Isar, convener of the Radical Teachers Forum (RTF), said the government was trying to interfere in the academic appointments on the pretext of ``streamlining''.
