HYDERABAD, March 27: In one of the most keenly fought elections, the ruling Telugu Desam Party and its ally, CPI, managed to win all the six seats to the Rajya Sabha from the state for which polling was held today.

This is the second successive defeat to Congress nominee T Venkatram Reddy who lost the election by a very narrow margin.

Those elected to the Upper House are: TDP general secretary C Ramachandraiah, Guntur Zilla Parishad chairman Y. Venkat Rao, former APCO chairman R. Ramachandraiah, TDP legal cell convenor P. Prabhakar Reddy and former minister K. Kala Venkata Rao (all Telugu Desam) and Dasari Nagabhushan Rao of the CPI.

Kala Venkata Rao clinched the last seat in the sixth round at the end of which he got 4115 points as against 4101 by the Congress nominee.

The victory of five TDP nominees and the CPI man had become possible because of the precise distribution of second preference votes to various contestants.
