Three students and a securityman were killed and several others injured in violent exchanges at the Salakati railway station in Kokrajhar district of Assam this morning after personnel of Haryana’s 1 IRB (India Reserve Battalion) opened fire at a crowd which attacked them for allegedly molesting girls on the Brahmaputra Mail.

Kokrajhar SP P K Bhuyan told The Indian Express that two students died when IRB personnel opened fire, while at least ten others, including three jawans, were injured in the exchanges. IRB’s Virendra Kumar succumbed to injuries later. The All Bodo Students’ Union alleged that the jawans fired after students and passengers protested their “misbehaviour with female students” on the train.
