CHENNAI, OCT 17: AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha on Tuesday said that the special court’s verdict, sentencing her to three years RI in the TANSI land deal case, had only strengthened her belief that the party would be voted back to power in Tamil Nadu after the Assembly polls next year.
Addressing AIADMK workers at the party headquarters after hoisting the party flag on the occassion of the 28th foundation year celebrations, she said “the DMK government thought that AIADMK cadres will desert me after the verdict. They also thought that I will flee from the state. Both these things have not happened.”
“I will not rest until the DMK government is brought down in next year’s Assembly polls,’ she said.
She asked partymen to go to the people, work with them and gain their confidence. “It is the only way to win the elections,” she said and claimed that the people wanted a change.
Meanwhile, five photographers sustained simple injuries when the makeshift wooden railing of a temporary podium near the statue of the late M G Ramachandran in front of the AIADMK headquarters office here collapsed when they were taking pictures of Jayalalitha.
The photographers were leaning on the railings to take pictures of Jayalalitha solemnising the marriage of 52 couples as part of the party’s 28th foundation year celebrations when it gave way, unable to withstand their weight.
The incident occurred soon after the AIADMK supremo got down from the podium after hoisting the party flag.
One of the photo journalists, later complained of a `twisted leg’.
