Shirin R. Tahir-Kheli has been appointed Special Assistant to US President George Bush and senior director for Democracy, Human Rights and International Operations.

According to a release, National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice on March 24 announced the appointment Tahir Kheli, who was a research professor at John Hopkins University.

Tahir-Kheli was the alternative US representative to the UN for Special Political Affairs between 1990-93. She has been actively involved in improving bilateral relations between India and Pakistan through the BALUSA group.
