Sycophancy in force

The annual conference of heads of state police in Delhi proved to be a staid affair, with hardly any fresh ideas being thrown up. The media was the easy punching bag and with no one there to offer an alternative perspective, almost all top officials took potshots at the media frenzy over terror cases. NSA M K Narayanan was, however, more studious in his talk as he impressively mapped the neighbourhood influence on terror, starting with Nepal in the north and taking a whole circle touching other countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. But such is the virtue of sycophancy that one of the DGs of a paramilitary force stood up and showered impromptu praise and accolades on the eloquence with which the NSA had presented his talk. He went to such an extent that an embarrassed Naryanan had to ask him to sit down.
