MUMBAI, June 8: Shaw Wallace and Company (SWC) has improved its performance by recording net profit of Rs 1.70 crore for six months ending December 1997 compared to Rs 27 lakh during the same period last year.While sales registered growth of 33 per cent to Rs 448.25 crore against Rs 336.56 crore in the corresponding period last year, gross profit increased to Rs 41.9 crore with SWC paying Rs 39.44 crore as interest in the six month period, a company statement said today.Growth in profits has been due to noticeable improvement in core business like liquor and beer, the statement added.SWC non-core activities namely gelatines, agri-chem and consumer product division have also recorded significant growth in turnover.
