The Mcdonald’s outlet on the Ludhiana-Doraha highway treated the city’s residents to some novel fare yesterday. It sent people to its doorsteps early in the morning, carrying bright leaflets which showed a map to the outlet bypassing the route through which they had to dole out a heavy toll tax.

Though a trifle longer, the alternate route — via Rajgarh along the Sidhwan canal — evades a toll barrier where every passerby is charged Rs 70. Sources say the fast food giant had found this was eating into its customer figures. While dismissing the leaflets with the map as routine, Director, Communications, of Cannaught Plaza restaurant, a company in joint venture with Mcdonald’s for north India, Madhurima Bakshi, admitted the toll tax had made a dent in their business.
