MUMBAI, April 15: In a surprise move, controversial Sena leader and former Agriculture minister Shashikant Sutar today said that he will soon initiate defamation proceedings against Justice S W Puranik and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare. “Since I have been completely exonerated by the Dudhat Commission, I have decided to file defamation cases against both Puranik and Hazare,” Sutar said soon after Chief Minister Manohar Joshi tabled the report of the Dudhat Commission in both the Houses of State Legislature.

Following a complaint lodged by Hazare, the alliance government had appointed Justice Puranik to probe into the charges of corruption against Sutar and the then Irrigation Minister Mahadev Shivankar. The Puranik Committee held Sutar guilty of corruption charges and exonerated Shivankar.

“I feel that Justice Puranik has done great injustice to me. The entire inquiry was farce as well as one-sided and therefore I have decided to initiate defamation proceedings against him,” Sutarsaid.

Sutar will also file a defamation case against Hazare for levelling false and baseless charges against him.
