Colombo, Oct 13: Controversial Sri Lankan Susanthika Jayasinghe who was suspended by the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) last year for taking performance-enhancing has been legally cleared of all charges by the world body.

The IAAF’s decision absolving Susanthika was conveyed in writing to Sri Lanka’s Amateur Athletic Association (AAA) three weeks ago, The Island newspaper said here today.

But AAA officials, whom Susanthika accused of tampering with her urine samples have not yet released the contents of the letter to the media, though they received it three weeks ago, the newspaper said.

In an interview to the newspaper, AAA President Ariyakannangara admitted that his organisation has received the letter from the IAAF. But he has not given any credible explanation for not making the letter public.

The first indications of IAAF’s decision to clear Susanthika came from the athlete’s new American coach, Tony Campbell, in August this year at the World Championships in Seville, where she was temporarily permitted by IAAF pending inquiry.

Though Campbell has claimed that IAAF has decided to absolve Susanthika of all charges, the official decision was conveyed only three weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the AAA continued to ignore Susanthika by omitting her from the squad picked up to run in the recent South Asian Federation (SAF) Games at kathmandu.

Though Susanthika, the silver medal winner in the World championship at Athens last year migrated to United States alleging sexual harassment by the sports officials, she always expressed her preference to run for the country.
