
Mercury touches 42.4 degrees
Summer made its presence felt with a warning as the city recorded the season8217;s highest temperature on Sunday. With the mercury soaring to 42.4 degrees C even before the end of March, the city faces a long and dreary summer ahead. In fact, since the onset of summer, the city8217;s temperature has been more than other parts of Gujarat. The last few days, mercury had been hovering around 39 to 40 degrees C peaking to 42.4 on Sunday. Most residents, especially students and office-goers, were lucky in that most could afford to stay indoors due to holiday.
ISO 14001
Essar Steel Limited becomes the first steel plant in India 8212; 10th in the world 8212; to be awarded certification for ISO 14001 8211; Environmental Management System, by Det Norske Veritas, Rotterdam. DNV has issued the certificate bearing in mind the complex nature of operations of Essar Steel and its impact on the environment. The company said in a release here on Sunday that DNV had praised Director operations D Sugantharaj and his team on their performance that meets international standards towards ensuring environmental protection.
Exhibition
An exhibition of paintings and wood sculptures by Shyam Sharma and Brajesh Kumar Singh was inaugurated by industrialist Jitubhai Vakharia at the Rotary Art Gallery here on Sunday. The exhibition will remain on view till April 3 between 11 am and 7 pm daily.
Anniversary
Governor Sundar Singh Bhandari on Saturday inaugurated a three-day programme organised by Shri Jain Shwetambar Terapanthi Sabha to celebrate the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Mahavir. Several programmes like blood donation, free homoeopathy treatment and distribution of medicines at cheaper rates will be organised during the celebrations to be held in the presence of Jain muni Sumermalji.
