Gowda in city today
Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda is visiting Surat on Tuesday to attend the marriage function of former M P Kanak Sinh Mangrola8217;s daughter.
Study tour
Students of Pravinkant Reshamwala Institute of Journalism, South Gujarat University, returned from a two-day study tour of Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad recently. They visited the Gujarat Assembly, Akshardham, Information Department and Doordarshan during their tour. The students also witnessed live debates on the floor of the Assembly.
Assistance
The Surat District Leprosy Society provided assistance to 26 patients in Mandvi taluka. Fourteen patients were given agricultural implements, two sewing machines, and 10 hand-carts. Mandvi taluka panchayat president Panachand Gamit was present on the occasion.
Open house
District Collector Sangeeta Singh will preside over an open house on Tuesday to be held at the Surat People8217;s Co-operative Bank Hall, Samruddhi building at 3 pm.
Applications
Dependents of primary and secondary teacher, who are suffering from tuberculosis, paralysis and cancer, have been advised to apply to the state government for financial assistance before April 30. The applications are to be addressed to the district education or primary education officer.
Medical camp
More than 400 people residing in slums around Pandesara industrial area of the city have been provided medical aid as part of a health department medical camp in urban areas, an official release said. Patients were treated free of cost at the camp. About 20 medical experts from the New Civil hospital rendered their services at the camp.
