Noted film maker Subhash Ghai has been invited to represent India as a jury member for the final selection of the 2002 International Emmy Awards in the US in November. The award, instituted by the International Council of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, aims at encouraging excellence in TV programming outside the US, according to a release. The Council is the largest organisation of global broadcasters with television and media personalities from 50 countries. ‘‘It’s a great feeling for me to be on the jury,’’ said Ghai today, ‘‘It’s a great opportunity. I’ll be representing the other side, television.’’ Ghai said he was himself pleasantly surprised to hear the news. ‘‘I just got a call.’’ Ghai along with other jury members will judge documentaries and serials from around the world. It is a great experience to watch the work of the best talent from all over the world in the field of television.It opens up a new horizon for us to improve our TV programmes,’’ Ghai, who was also a juror at the Dubai Asian-African semi-finals of the Emmy awards competition recently, said.
