CHANDIGARH, June 17: A section of students in the City who have not been able to achieve 90 per cent or more marks in this year’s Class X CBSE examination have alleged faulty evaluation in Hindi and Social Science papers.

These students highlight that while they scored very high marks in the pre-board tests, they have scored less due to “wrong” evaluation in the boards. The results of the examination were declared on Monday. Parents of these students have sough re-evaluation of papers and not a mere re-checking.

Raghav Kapoor of St. John’s High School, who has been a topper all through has secured 88.6 per cent marks in aggregate due to a low score of 67 in Hindi. His father Balit S. Kapoor has alleged complacency in the evaluation of the Hindi paper as he had scored 85 marks in the pre-boards. He highlighted the fact that while boys of one section have scored well in Hindi, the others have not, adding that the same was true about the social science paper. Infact, those who have scored well in Hindi have not fared well in Social Science and vice-a-versa.

Harsh Dhand of the same school who was expected to top is fifth in school, with 87 per cent marks as he scored only 83 in Social Studies. His father has in an application urged the school authorities to move a Public Interest litigation against the “faulty” evaluation system of the board. Shikha Tandon of Sacred Heart with 89 per cent marks (445) has scored only 73 in Hindi, while she had scored 85 in Hindi in the pre-boards. Her mother, Sarita Tandon wants the paper to be re-evaluated and not merely rechecked.

Bhavna Bhasin, another student of the school is upset about her scoring 77 in Hindi and 78 in Social Science, as it brought down her aggregate percentage to 88. Others who have been seriously affected by the faulty evaluation method are Anshul Garg who has secured 73 in Social Science, while he had scored 95 in the pre-boards; Akshay Kapur, who has secured 63 in Social Science was expecting 90 plus. Abhishek Mishra has secured 75 in Social Science, though he was expecting 85 per cent. Ankur Kataria has also applied for re-checking as he has scored only 67 in Hindi and 69 in Social Studies. All of them are students of St. John’s High School.

The parents want the CBSE authorities to get at least some of these students re-evaluated by a neutral examiner to check if justice has been done. The Joint Secretary, Y. P. Katyal when contacted said he had not received any such complaints.

Meanwhile, as many as 700 students applied for re-checking their papers at the Regional Office of the board in Sector 32 on the first day. Long queues could be seen as parents and students came to submit their application forms for re-checking. Most of them had applied for re-checking in Hindi and Social Science.
