Patna, Nov 6: The Congress Legislature Party, for the first time, sought permission from the party high command to withdraw support to the RJD government.

The CLP meeting was unanimous in the view that the Congress had to suffer a lot due to its alliance with the RJD. It said that it had become imperative, in the interests of the party, to withdraw the support.

Well-placed sources in the Congress maintain that the decision to adopt the resolution for withdrawal of support was taken after discussion with the AICC task force. The members were in favour of immediate withdrawal of support to the RJD government.

The CLP attributed the victory of its candidate from Rajmahal to the party’s stand on a separate Jharkhand state. The resolution said that it was its commitment to create a separate Jharkhand state that helped the party to win the Rajmahal seat. Though RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav did not campaign for the Congress nominee, it performed quite well.

The Congress leaders described the defeat of theBJP in three seats as total rejection of the party by the people of Bihar. Interestingly, the CLP, which was earlier silent on imposition of President’s Rule in Bihar, today came out in support of it. As part of introspection, it attributed the defeat of the party to its support to the RJD. The CLP felt that the party should have stuck to its programme of supporting President’s Rule.
