CHANDIGARH, May 26: UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) Tejwinder Singh today granted bail to an employee accused of presenting stolen cheques in a bank.

The accused, Surinder Kumar, had been booked by the Chandigarh Police for cheating, forgery, using a forged document as original, property theft by a servant from the employer’s possession, and criminal conspiracy on August 4, 1997.

According to the prosecution, two blank cheques were filled up by the accused, and a companion, after they stole the cheques from the organisation they were working for.

Meanwhile, the defence counsel contended that the accused was entitled to be released on bail as the prosecution had failed to submit the challan within 60 days, mandatory under the provisions of law.

It was added that the accused was prepared to furnish bail bonds to the court’s satisfaction.
