AHMEDABAD, JAN 11: In a bizarre incident, all members of a family of five allegedly committed suicide at Shivani Apartment located in the posh Satellite locality of the city yesterday, city police sources said here this morning.
The deceased were identified as stockbroker and businessman Haresh Gandhi (45), his wife Devinder Gandhi (44), their son Karthik (14) and two daughters Hetal (20) and Aarti (17).
All five were rushed to the emergency ward of Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital in evening by close relatives, but they succumbed within hours of being admitted. Primary investigations have revealed that the family had consumed Valium 5, a sleeping tablet, to end their lives.
Though the police have not found any suicide notes or documents that could give clues to the reason behind the act, they have arrested a suspect Raj Jain alias Sanjay, state unit secretary of National Students Union of India (nsui), on the basis of several letters addressed to Gandhi’s elder daughter signed by him, which were recovered from the house.
A case of unnatural death has been registered by the Satellite police. A team of senior police officials along with experts from the forensic science laboratory are investigating the case further, the police added.
