NEW DELHI, Nov 20: National Consumer Disputes and Redressal Commission (NCDRC) president K S Paripoornan has resigned from the post, 10 days after leaving the Capital in protest against not being allotted a house. A retired Supreme Court judge, he was appointed the president of the commission after his name was finalised in August on the recommendation of the Chief Justice of India. He took charge on October 20, four months after the earlier president had retired. The commission has 4,800 consumer redressal cases pending. In a letter sent on Wednesday to Raghuvans Prasad Singh, Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs, he says: since the day `I left Kerala House, I got no response from the officials of the Ministry to my letter', referring to his earlier letter where he had sought basic facilities such as an office and a house.Concluding the concise resignation letter, he stated, ``I hereby resign the office of the president of NCDRC.'' A copy of the letter has also been sent to the Chief Justice, who recommended his name on the understanding that ``the Government will provide him with suitable accommodation and other facilities.'' Earlier, anticipating the accommodation problem commission officials had sought an `ear-marked' accommodation for the president. But in spite of repeated reminders to the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs and the Ministry of Urban Development, no arrangements were made. Finally, the retired judge shifted to a Kerala House suite. However, on November 7 he was asked to shift to a smaller room.
