Gidwani said if a subsidy of Rs four crore is extended, onion could be sold for Rs 10 per kg. “As per the existing rates in Iran, the final landing cost of onion will be Rs 13.50 per kg. If government extends a small subsidy of Rs 3.50 kg, we will supply onion at the rate of Rs 10 per kg,” Gidwaniadded.

Gidwani said the daily requirement of the metropolis is about 800 tonnes, while the daily supply is less than 150 tonnes.

Gidwani claimed that the alliance government has agreed to his proposal to grant subsidy to provide onion at Rs 10 per kg on ration card. However, Bagde said that the decision on subsidy can be taken only by the Cabinet.
