BHOPAL, MAY 3: Firebrand BJP MP Uma Bharti today said it was duty of the state government to ensure protection for her as she was given `Z’ category security and “could be targeted by Pakistan’s ISI”.
Talking to reporters here, the former Union Minister lashed out at Chief Minister, Digvijay Singh for the alleged attempt on her life on Monday night by two youths.
Bharti, who has been on a fast for the last three days against the state government’s decision to retrench daily wage labourers, said it was the duty of the state administration to ensure that such incidents did not take place.
Referring to the arrest of two armed youths near the fast site, she dismissed as “dubious” the police claim that they did not plan to attack her.
To a query, Bharti said it was the Union Home ministry which should tackle the ISI activities at the national level but said that within the state it was the responsibility of the Chief Minister to ensure her security.
About the Chief Minister’s reported statement yesterday that she was wasting her time and energies on a non-issue, Bharti said “this is Singh’s usual style to dismiss lightly the serious issues which he fails to handle”.
