VADODARA, July 26: The State was refocusing on academics, according to chairperson of the Gujarat Secondary Education Board, Rita Teotia.Addressing reporters here on Saturday, she said changing the education policy was not an easy task and not only in the hands of the Board alone. The curriculum was a matter of policy making and only the government was authorised to change it.Pointing out that the academic standard of the state was comparatively low as compared to other states, she observed that this was the primary reason why students of the state did not figure in any of the competitive examinations.She said though most of them figured in the state-list in their Board examinations, they failed to make it up in competitive examinations. According to her, students faced this problem from the grassroot level itself. Observing that students had to undergo a lot of mental and physical stress during board examinations, she said it was the system which was to be blamed.On the rush for admissions in schools, she observed that the number of students was increasing at a faster rate that the number of schools.Informing the gathering that the board had given clearance for reopening several schools and extending classes in various schools, she said it would help meet the rush.
