Aurangabad, May 19: Vaishali Shinde, State-level hockey and cricket player, lost both her legs in a train accident at the Lasur railway station, about 45 km from here.

According to Vaishali’s family, she alongwith her younger brother, was travelling by a train from Jalna to Lasur to meet her sister on Sunday. When the train slowed down after arriving at Lasur station, Vaishali reached for the doorto get down. Suddenly, someone pushed her and she fell on the rails. One leg was severed on the spot. She was admitted in the Aurangabad Government Medical College hospital where her other leg was amputated in order to save her life.

Vaishali, the daughter of a PSI in Special Reserve Police, Jalna, is a TYBA student of the Dankuwar Women’s College at Jalna. She had excelled in cricket and hockey and won gold and silver medals in the inter-universities tournaments. She wanted to become a hockey coach, but her dream has been shattered with the accident, the family sources added.
