Mumbai, Jan 22: The DF government is planning to cut Dearness Allowance (DA) of its employees by 40 per cent as compared to their Central Government counterparts and freeze bonus payable during the current year.

The move to cut monetary benefits of the employees has evoked strong reactions from their unions.

R G Karnik, general secretary of the confederation of the state government emloyees’ unions, had claimed that the government had informed about its decision on September 30. However, the union had opposed the move and threatened to strike in protest of the decision.

While the government is saying that it spends 73 per cent of its funds on the salaries, the unions claim that the pays and allowances do not exceed 20 per cent of the government expenditure.
