State CID to probe custodial death

NAGPUR, October 2: The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Nagpur, will probe the death of an undertrial in the Central Prison here on Sunday last.

According to police, 11 persons, including one Deputy Superintendent of Prisons, Rajendra Dhamne, along with four jail staff members and six watchmen-cum-wardens, have been booked under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (Murder and Destroying Evidence) by the Dhantoli police.

The suspects allegedly beat up Anil Kosare (30) in his barrack and later shifted him to the Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Kosare, who hailed from Satgaon village in Butibori taluka in the district, had allegedly killed his wife. The post-mortem report revealed injuries on his head and noted that his death was due to shock following severe bashing.
