NEW DELHI, January 8: Star-studded Roshanara Club, which boasts such former India cricketers, including Vikram Rathore, Aashish Kapoor, Pankaj Dharmani, Ajay Sharma and Ashu Dani in its ranks, take on the challenge of dark-horses Bright Club in the semifinal of the second Roshanara Cup tournament at the Roshanara grounds here today.
Collage Group have already made it to the final after trouncing Indian Airlines. The final will be played on Saturday.
On the batsman-friendly track, the tournament has so far witnessed a number of big totals in the 40-over competition. And there were centuries galore, too. Ashu Dani, one of the `guest stars’ in the host team, was the first to notch a hundred as they beat Collage Group to begin their campaign in group B.
Vikram Rathore was also credited with a three-figure knock while all-rounder Aashish Kapoor has contributed to the team’s success so far, both in batting and in bowling.
Bright Club, on the other hand, are a bunch of enthusiastic cricketers and their display against last year’s winners Sonnet to move into the semi-finals was prove enough of their commitment.
They will have nothing to lose and everything to gain in their battle against favourites Roshanara tomorrow.
Himachal Ranji Trophy opener Nischal Gaur, Malhotra brothers Atul and Akash, Haryana Ranji batsman Parinder Sharma and young spinner Kishan Soni are capable of putting up a good fight.
But on paper and current form, Roshanara are firm favourites, not only to win the semifinal but also the final the next day.
