Star-studded field for Hero Honda Masters

OCTOBER 21: In terms of titlists this season and overall on the Asian PGA Davidoff Tour, the Hero Honda Masters next week must rank as one of the most star-studded events. For 19 winners, who amongst them have 33 titles on the APGA are expected to figure in the start list on October 28, when the US $ 200,000 event starts rolling.

American Gerry Norquist, five times winner on the APGA Tour and winner of the Benson and Hedges Malaysian Open at Kuala Lumpur — a joint sanctioned event of the European and Asian PGA — leads the list of champions.

Following him closely is Jeev Milkha Singh, India’s most successful golfer, who last week broke a three-year long drought winning the Lexus International in Bangkok. The Chandigarh pro, sponsored by Hero Honda, also had a hole-in-one in the tournament on the opening day. One of the highlights of his career was a record-breaking 26-under four round at the Philip Morris Asian Cup in Korea which was his last win before the Lexus International.

Nico Ven Rensburg, whose Volvo Masters this year was his third APGA title is also in the field, which includes seven winners from the current season. Apart from Norquist, Jeev and Rensburg, the others are India’s Arjun Atwal (Wills Indian Open), Korea’s Anthony Kang (Casino Filipino Philippine Open), South Africa’s James Kingston (Maekyoung Daks Open) and Sweden’s Stephen Lindskog (Qualifying School).

Indians, who have APGA titles and have confirmed their entries are: Jeev, Atwal, Gaurav Ghei (1995 Gadgil Western Masters), Feroz Ali (1998 Wills Indian Open) and Jyoti Randhawa, the defending champion.
