MUMBAI, OCT 14: St Stanislaus kept their slate clean. They did not concede a single goal on their way to the title in the under-8 section of the MSSA Castrol Inter-Schools Football title. Today they defeated St Xavier's, Fort 2-0 at the MSSA Castrol Schools Sports Centre, Azad Maidan. If Gavin Paes and Raoul D'Mello were the heroes for Stanislaus, then Xavier's goalkeeper Samrat Golhar was the one player who kept them to just a 0-2 margin of defeat. He made some breathtaking saves. The goals came about in the seventh minute when Gavin Paes shot from about 20-yards away. The next came in a scramble with Raoul putting the ball past the disappointed Samrat. But the final was not about goals and misses, it was about enthusiasm. Strategies were thrown out of the window as the only tactic employed was to kick the ball in front. Stanislaus were better on that count. There were some cute scenes witnessed during - like the fight to take a throw-in and the appeal to the referee after suffering an injury, hoping that the game would be stopped. Then there were some players from Stanislaus side who hardly got to touch the ball and were heard complaining to fellow players. Not that they were too unhappy. The best scene was seen in the bench when a group of players, having found a packet of Glucon D, were quietly making a meal out of it behind the back of the preoccupied coaches.Chembur English heldHoly Family held Chembur English to a 1-1 draw in the eight-team Super League in the MDFA-organised football league at the Xavier's ground, Parel.
